The new design still promises the same fish-friendly performance as the previous designs of Johnson Screens® Passive Intake screens have been doing for over 40 years.
New features include:
- 1.4 times higher capacity than the previous design
- Newly redesigned internal modifier
- Efficient water withdrawal by evenly distributing flow and reducing the velocity to 0.15 m/s (0.5 feet/second) or less
- Easy to maintain non-plugging design using Johnson Screens® patented Hydroburst™ screen cleaning system
- 316b-compliant intake screens
Our CFD analysis capabilities were used to develop the internal modifier system needed to maintain even flow distribution across the entire length of the screen.
Johnson Screens® Passive Screens are designed with a maximum slot velocity of typically 0.15 m/s (0.5 feet/second) to minimize impingement. This velocity is the maximum velocity at which a juvenile fish can turn around, swim away and not be impinged onto a passive screen. Sometimes these velocity levels are reduced to meet specific project requirements.
Our Johnson Screens® Max-Flow™ Passive Intakes are optimized for easy handling and optimal water flow from the outside to the inside of the screen. Naturally, the new screen design also offers all of the same features and benefits that standard passive screens do, such as low maintenance, custom applications, lower costs, the Hydroburst™ System for cleaning, and Johnson Screens® Dual Flow modifier as well as Vee-Wire® construction.
